AI Slop Fatigue

1. AI Slop Origins, For The Benefit of Humanity

OpenAI was founded in 2015 by then loved by everyone ever-procreating billionaire Elon Musk and a male version of Elizabeth Holmes Sam Altman. At that time no one would think that a decade later official RAM prices would surpass scalper prices and rivers would start running dry to fuel the AI data centers.

The AI(Artificial Intelligence) pipe dream began as a non-profit that would "benefit humanity" by creating an AGI(Artificial General Intelligence). OpenAI’s mission was to advance AI development to “benefit humanity as a whole.”

Cryptocurrency bubble was "the next big thing" brewing at that point in time, so no one really cared about OpenAI or it's benefit to a few corporations (humanity). NVIDIA was busy selling GPUs to gamers, before their GPUs were used to mine crypto in 2018-2021. And Microsoft was peddling "everything is in the Cloud" SaaS models to happy corporate clients along with Windows 10.

2. AI Slop Rise To Power.

In November 2022, OpenAI launched its ChatGPT AI chatbot, making it widely available to the general public, the human guinea pig test subjects as usually cheered "progress" with happy faces.

As a result of successful human guinea pig trials AI slop started going viral fast, texts with flowery language started flowing on all social media platforms, everyone used ChatGPT to write CVs, articles and vibe-coding a new term emerged, AI slop code stolen from Stack Overflow, who could ask for more?

Human guinea pigs were happy and cheering and asking for more, while generating AI slop images though DALL-E(another OpenAI project) and other companies wanted in on the hype and the AI cash flow.

NVIDIA likes money, since no one was mining crypto anymore in 2021 and therefore not buying their overpriced GPUs in bulk. NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang the guy in the leather jacket after washing the dishes managed to do some simple CEO PowerPoint math, with the help of his secretary and decided that it was time to sell shovels( NVIDIA GPUs) to every "struggling" multi-billion dollar company to help power their AI data centers, because, logically, every huge company wanted to jump on the AI slop hype train ASAP.

The list of "struggling" multi-billion dollar companies included Microsoft. Microsoft already "strategically partnered" with OpenAI for 1 billion dollars in order to fill their already buggy Windows 11 release with more junk and that junk was Copilot.

Eventually, Microsoft filled all of their products with AI Copilot junk ware, even including Copilot in all of their flag ship products that were useful like Office 365, which created even more "artificial" joy for their customers.

3. AI Slop Fatigue the Beginning of The End.

And here we are 4 years later, no AGI, AI slop is flowing on every social media platform, bot accounts talk to each other on social networks and boost each other, deep fake video and audio technologies are used to perform good old social engineering attacks on unsuspecting people.

To translate how AI works to the yet uninitiated, none of AI slop is the promised AGI(Artificial General Intelligence) or even actual AI(Artificial Intelligence). These are just good old LLMs(Large Language Models) trained on existing data sets, created by humans that use web crawler bots to scrape data. Then the gathered data is filtered through cheapest third-world outsource sweatshops possible in order to return more or less accurate results to the "AI Engineers", "AI Artists", "Vibe-coders" and other AI prompters.

There are a bunch of competing AI solutions, including open source AI solutions that users can run locally.

The prices of consumer grade hardware components went sky high, there is an actual shortage on hardware components. All of the hardware was bought in advance to sacrifice on the altar of upcoming AGI(Artificial General Intelligence), which should be the pinnacle of AI and every struggling multi-billion dollar company will bathe in gold and become a multi-trillion dollar company.

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Sam Altman is backing out of some of the deals already, due to a bunch of controversies, including shady deals with BlackRock.

Microsoft is already withdrawing from OpenAI partnership quietly.

“We have to develop our own foundation models, which are at the absolute frontier, with gigawatt-scale compute and some of the very best AI training teams in the world," Suleyman

Satya Nadella CEO Of Microsoft wrote a long-winded article in his personal blod, where he asked users to stop calling AI slop AI slop:

A new concept that evolves “bicycles for the mind” such that we always think of AI as a scaffolding for human potential vs a substitute. What matters is not the power of any given model, but how people choose to apply it to achieve their goals. We need to get beyond the arguments of slop vs sophistication and develop a new equilibrium in terms of our “theory of the mind” that accounts for humans being equipped with these new cognitive amplifier tools as we relate to each other. This is the product design question we need to debate and answer.

This post instantly produced backlash and now Microsoft is officially called Microslop in all of the online resources and meme culture. Then Microsoft went into damage control mode and banned the term Microslop from it's discord server.

Elon Musk CEO of Tesla and X(Twitter) resurrected the Japanese humanoid robot trend from the mid 80-s, also promising AGI with Grok, that was recently involved in a controversy for returning unfiltered adult content to it's users.

The most recent AI gimmick was the announcement of DLSS 5 for NVIDIA GPUs, which just looked like an Instagram AI filter, making every in-game character look glossy, generic and bland. The presentation included minimum motion scenes on 2 RTX 5090 GPUs.

NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 has sparked controversy because it essentially applies a generative AI filter to existing computer graphics and alters the artistic vision of game developers.

NVIDIA's DLSS 5 was instantly cemented in online meme culture and memefied to the infinity and beyond in two days.

Jensen Huang the NVIDIA's CEO in the shining leather jacket after doing some more PowerPoint math tried to address the backlash with the following contradictory corpo speak word salad statement:

"Well, first of all, they're completely wrong," Huang said in response to a question about the criticism. "The reason for that is because, as I have explained very carefully, DLSS 5 fuses controllability of the of geometry and textures and everything about the game with generative AI," Huang continued. "It’s not post-processing, it’s not post-processing at the frame level, it’s generative control at the geometry level,".

What this actually translates to is that everyone is wrong it's not AI slop, but it is AI slop.

4. AI Slop CEO Damage Control.

If we are a few steps away from AGI(Artificial General Intelligence) and AI(Artificial Intelligence) is in full bloom, then all of the above mentioned statements from the CEO's are not needed.

Everything in the last few months points to AI fatigue. AI certainly has it's niche uses like the defense and surveillance technology applications.

AI's general use is just silly AI slop when it comes to everything else. Because these CEO's are not amateurs they know that AI hype is already over and stocks of companies heavily invested into AI/AGI promises are going to plummet soon.

All of these tactics are just smoke and mirrors. From resurrecting brain-dead Japanese humanoid robots from the mid/late 80-s to applying generative AI filters though DLSS 5 to in-game characters are just diversion tactics and of the CEOs,whose companies are invested heavily into AI and these companies are in damage control mode. Damage control means only one thing, they need to bail their companies out, because the AI slop hype bubble has run its course and will turn into another niche tech.
